Baroque Fauna Series

This photography series emerged from a period of deep immersion on a temporarily isolated tropical island during the pandemic, where I lived and worked closely with movement-improviser friends. Removed from the habitual noise of daily life, we entered a non-verbal, embodied space in which bodies responded instinctively to the tropical landscape—its humidity, light, textures, and rhythms.
Through improvised, fleeting encounters shaped by gravity, touch, and porous attention, the series captures human movement and embodied gestures in a tropical setting. Using the camera, I reinterpreted these raw interactions to form new narratives that diverge from lived reality. The resulting images carry a dark, Baroque cinematic sensibility: chiaroscuro, ambiguity, and suspended tension infuse each frame with mystery and primal energy.
In Baroque Fauna, identity and individuality soften as human bodies merge with their surroundings, emerging as part of a more-than-human ecosystem. The work explores improvisational, embodied photography, blending movement, tropical landscapes, and Baroque aesthetics to reflect the intimacy, uncertainty, and dreamlike atmosphere of a global lockdown — a moment when time felt stretched, elastic, and surreal. This series highlights the fragile, poetic relationship between humans and the natural world, creating immersive art that documents presence, gesture, and environmental connection.
Several of these captured fleeting moments are now available as limited-edition fine art prints.
