Imperfect Perfection
2025

It is impossible to get tired of the traditional Japanese interiors - those minimalist, refined oasis of perfection always ready for a photoshoot. Our visual memory is filled with them.
But what if I show you the reality of what a Japanese interior can truly host?
I traveled and have been living in Japan for more than two months during the spring and summer of 2025, including off-the-beaten-path locations, where I stayed in various rural and urban traditional Japanese houses.
For many photographers taking pictures is almost a ritual of presence; but for me, it functions as a withdrawal from lived experience.
The experience of living in and being hosted by these various Japanese houses—whether tidy or less tidy, with a range beyond my expectations—was too precious to simply document.

Yet, these pictures here, taken in the house that hosted me the longest - for 21 days in total- accurately depict how life breathes inside a Japanese house.
